Thanksgiving brings a major weekend of chess to the United States. See event highlights below and look for updates on CLO throughout the weekend. Also share your own turkey tales for possible publication on CLO with web-editor Jennifer Shahade at jshahade@uschess.org.

National Chess Congress
Philadelphia hosts the National Chess Congress over Thanksgiving weekend, at the Sheraton in Center City. The tournament features a guaranteed $30,000 prize fund. Thanksgiving Open in Saint Louis

The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis will host the Thanksgiving Open next weekend. The tournament will include GMs Nigel Short, Yury Shulman, Ray Robson, Gregory Kaidanov and GM-in-residence Ben Finegold. On the Monday after the tournament, November 29th, 2010, former World Champion Garry Kasparov will make an appearance at the CCSCSL. Later that evening, Short will conduct a 30-board simultaneous. American Open in Los Angeles

The 46th annual American Open gets underway on the actual Thanksgiving day, with an option to play Nov.26-28. See details on the official website and look for updates by Randy Hough.

North American Amateur Closed in Skokie

The 1st North American Amateur Closed is set to take place during the Thanksgiving weekend from Friday November 26 through Sunday November 28. The event is a 2-section round robin format tournament organized for the purpose of providing amateur/class players with an opportunity to achieve a FIDE rating.
