Bill Hook, author of "Hooked on Chess", captain ofthe Washington Plumbers championship team of the National Chess League,individual gold medal winner on first board at the 1980 Chess Olympiad(playing for the British Virgin Island team), participant in a record18 consecutive World Chess Olympiads, local chess master in theWashington, DC area, and before that, the New York city area, diedtoday, under hospice care, at his home in Silver Spring, Maryland.  Hewas 85 years old.  He is survived by his wife, Mimi Hook, a long timefriend of the Washington, DC chess community and frequent hostess tochess players in her home. 

A memorial service will be held Wednesday.
