With one round to go, Chris Williams needs 1/2 a point for an IM norm and Robert Hess has probably already made a GM norm with 6/8. According to initial calculations by Chris Bird, Hess just needs to play someone rated over 2328 (and even lose) to clinch the norm. Meanwhile, FM Marcel Martinez needs a draw in the final round against GM Sadvakasov for an IM norm while FM Tegshsuren Enkhbat needs to beat FM Andrew Karklins for an IM norm. Congrats to Hess, former U.S. Junior Champion, New York Knight, and Stuyvesant High athlete! Expect more on Hess's accomplishment after we confirm the norm. For now enjoy playing through his final two games on his road to norm.

The last round will see a showdown between Shulman and Shabalov for first. They both won their eighth round games against Sadvakasov and Stripunsky to emerge with 6.5/8, half a point ahead of the rest of the field.
