April rating supplement will be used. Players must disclose other Over-the-Board (OTB) ratings with entry. Players with other OTB ratings may be moved to a different section at the discretion of US Chess.

Team score is total of top four finishers from each school per section.
A team must have at least two players but no maximum number of players. The top four scores in any section will count for the team score. All players on a team must come from the same school.

National Championship
First place individual and team in the K-9 Championship section, including ties, will be recognized as National Champions.

Time Control: Game/120 d5
Each player has 120 minutes to complete the game with a 5 second grace period each move.



This is a US Chess National Scholastic Championship tournament. You must meet US Chess eligibility requirements to play. Click here to review our Scholastic Regulations. All entrants will have their rating history reviewed, per SR 12.5. Contact US Chess to resolve potential eligibility questions BEFORE entering or making travel arrangements.


Entry Fee:  $60 post marked or online by March 23, $80 by April 6, $95 by April 22, $100 on site.
Entry fees may be refunded in full if requested by 11 a.m. Friday.
$10 extra for all phone registrations.
$30 change fee for roster or section changes after April 6 or any on site changes.
Players registering after 11 a.m. Friday will not be paired for round 1, will receive a 1/2 point bye for round 1, and will begin play with round 2.
One 1/2 point bye available any round if requested with entry or before 11 a.m. Friday. One 1/2 point bye available for rounds 2-7 round if requested before 1 p.m. Friday. ZERO point byes may be requested for any round and should be requested at least 2 hours before the start of the round.

Schedule:
Opening ceremony Friday 12:45 p.m.
Rounds: Friday 1 p.m. - 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. - 7 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Awards Ceremony: Sunday 7 p.m. (approximately)

Award list is FINAL as of December 31, 2019.

All individual awards will be medals. All team awards will be trophies.

National Junior High Blitz Championship (G/5;d0):
Thursday 5 p.m., entry fee $20 by 4/6, $25 after or on site.
Registration closes at 4 p.m.

National Junior High Bughouse Championship (G/5;d0):
Thursday 11 a.m., $25 per 2-player team on site only. Registration 9-10 a.m. One section K-9.
Medals (2 each) to top 5 teams.

Family and Friends Tournament (G/30;d5):
4SS, G/30. Saturday 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., $20 onsite registration only. Anyone registering after 10 a.m. will take a half point bye in round 1. Rated and Unrated sections. Trophies for each category of combined player/student results.

  • Important: Electronic Device Policy for National Scholastic Events.
  • PLEASE READ THE ELECTRONIC DEVICE POLICY. DIRECTORS WILL ENFORCE IT.
  • Please bring clocks. Sets and score sheets provided.
  • US Chess membership through April 2020 is required.
  • Any roster changes made after April 6th or on site will incur a $30 change fee.

  • Cell Phones, iPads, e-Readers, and other electronic Devices are not permitted in bathrooms. We encourage players not to bring cell phones or other communication devices into the playing hall.
  • April 2020 rating supplement will be used in compliance with the guidelines for National Scholastic Events.
  • Unrated players may play in the Championship Sections or Unrated Sections only!!!

TEAM REGISTRATION INFORMATION

There are three levels of team registration: Standard, Premium and Deluxe.

Standard team registration is free to any school team. Registration is accomplished by entering players under the same team name or school code. Standard teams DO NOT need to complete the team room registration form below.

Premium team registration is for any team or group who reserves between $400 and $999 worth of team room space. Premium teams receive the benefits of a Knight Team, and also have the ability to request a team room. Premium teams must complete the team room registration form below, and will be invoiced their registration fee.

Deluxe team registration is for any team or group who reserves at least $1,000 worth of team room space. Deluxe teams receive the benefits of a Premium team, and will also have their name and organization logo displayed on the advertising slide show in front of the main tournament hall throughout the event. Deluxe teams must complete the team room registration form below, and will be invoiced their registration fee. Please note: the logo must be JPG or PNG format, and not exceed 2MB in size.

Premium and Deluxe teams will be notified of their status when their team room reservation is confirmed by US Chess. Deluxe teams will be asked to submit their logos for display at that time, and will be given a submission deadline.
