2024 Continental Senior (50+) Chess Championships

The 2024 Continental Senior Chess Championships will be held from May 6 through May 12, 2024 at the Hotel Habana Libre in Havana, Cuba. The event, organized by the Chess Confederation of the Americas and the Cuban Chess Federation is open to all American continent chess federation players.

Players must have a birthdate on December 31, 1974, or earlier, to play in the 50+ Section.

Players must have a birthdate on December 31, 1959, or earlier, to play in the 65+ Section.

This is a nine-round Swiss and the time control for all games is Game/90 with 30-second increment starting from move one. The top three finishers, Best Female and Best S65 players to receive prizes. REGISTRATION

All registrations for the tournament must be submitted by national federations, and it is not possible for an individual to register directly with the organizer. The registration fee for all players is $100.00. Please note there is also a $100 non-refundable administrative fee which will be added to all registrations. Interested players must fill out the Google Form here

The US Chess deadline for USA players to register is Tuesday, April 16, 2024, 5PM Central Time, which will enable US Chess to collect all the information required for participation by the organizer's deadline.

The Payment Deadline will be Friday, April 19, 2024, 5PM Central time. 

Refund Policy: A full refund of the entry fee will be provided, minus the administrative fee, if requested by April 19, 2024, 5PM Central. After this date, no refund will be provided, unless the tournament is canceled by the organizers.

Blitz Side Event (Optional) - $20 to register for the blitz side event

ACCOMMODATION

Hotel booking and payments must be made by the individual players and their accompanying persons. Hotel will be available from the organizer at the following rates:

  • Single Room - Breakfast only - $133 /per person / night
  • Single Room - Full Board - $181 /per person / night
  • Double Room - Breakfast only - $91 /per person / night
  • Double Room - Full Board - $139 /per person / night

Players must stay at the official hotel or else they would need to pay a penalty to the organizer of $80 per the event regulations; US Chess is not responsible for this fee regarding staying at an off-site hotel. 

WAIVERS

While US Chess has to collect registrations on behalf of our federation and submit them to the organizer, we cannot accept responsibility for the health and well being of any players who choose to travel to this event. By participating in this tournament, the registered player and their accompanying persons assumes all risks related to international travel.
