Sadorra.jpgThe Grandmaster team defeated the University of Texas at Dallas Team at the UTD Grandmaster Invitational held from March 12-19. The final score was 42.5 total points for the visiting GM team and 29.5 for UTD. But the home team was still left with much to smile about, as Julio Sadorra earned his final GM norm. Sadorra who was born in the Phillipines is a sophomore working toward a degree in Applied Math. Congrats to Julio, who is pictured to the left at the tournament opening ceremony. The tournament was a double schevinengen style tournament, pitting strong GMs such as Julio Bercerra, Ray Robson and Alexander Shabalov against the UTD Chess team, which includes GM Alejandro Ramirez, GM Ioan Chirila, Julio and many other titled players. On the UTD website, see full squad bios, round by round results and the final crosstable.

Chess Program Director James Stallings told CLO, " The tournament has been a great success with new corporate sponsorship from Turner Construction Company, good preparation for the Final Four in two weeks in Washington D.C., and newly created GM-elect Julio Sadorra."
