It must have been a tough decision by Gurevich as to whether to place his
queen on b6 or a5. With the queen on b6, a tactical flare-up is invited, as
Black attacks d4, and at the same time looks into a discovery on the e3-b6
diagonal. If now 17 d5 Nd4 18 Nxd4 Bxd4 19 Bxd4 Qxd4 20 Bxb5, White has picked
up a pawn, but with 20 ... Nc5, White's extra pawn will probably remain
permanently backward, and Black would have good activity for his pieces.
