Donald E. Yarter (1928-2004)

Donald E. Yarter, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on August 6, 2004 with his family by his side. He was born in Glens Falls, NY on September 23, 1928. An accomplished clarinetist, he earned his B.S. in Music Education from Ithaca College in 1950.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Edit, Children Donald A. Yarter, Gayle S. Stever, Jeffery A. Yarter, Victor A. Yarter, son-in-law John Stever, daughters-in-law Mary Yarter and Kristia Owens and grandchildren Erik Yarter, Alisha Yarter, Paul Stever, Scott Stever, Cathie Mancini, Paul Fitzsimon, Dane Yarter and Maxwell Yarter and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Yarter directed High School bands at various schools in New York State before opeining his own insurance agency in 1960. He was president of the Phelps Chamber of Commerce and a lifetime member of the U. S. Chess Federation. He was an insurance agent and manager for over 30 years. In 1968 he moved with his family to Arizona.

A memorial service for Mr. Yarter was held at 7pm August 18 at the University of Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to either Trinity Hospice, 6245 N. 24 Parkway, Phoenix, AZ 85016 or the University of Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Alameda, Tempe, AZ 85282.

Mr. Yarter was a Life member of USCF and carried an Established over-the-board rating of 1660.
