Harry Goober (1913-2000)

Hyman "Harry" Goober of Newton, Massachusetts died on Dec. 23, 2000. Born on July 17, 1913, Mr. Goober was best known as the founder of the Malden (Mass.) Junior Chess Club in the early 1960s. He later formed a chess club at the Newton (Mass.) YMCA. He was a member of the 1964 U.S. Open organizing committee, representing the Clarendon Chess Club, which brought the prestigious annual national event to Boston that year.
