For eight years now there has been a Chicago Sports Festival held at McCormick Place in Chicago.  This is sponsored by the city of Chicago through its Parks Department and supported by Mayor Daley.  For the past three years chess has been a part of this Fest thanks to the efforts of the Renaissance Knights chess.  Each year this organization has put together a one day tournament that is run at the Sports Fest.  They also put on a master simul on the other day they are at the Fest, as well as provide a skittles area for the general public to play.   Among the other free activities besides the Skittles and Master chess simul are such things as an exhibition by the Harlem Globetrotters, and free play of various sports.

This year over 260 individuals came out to play in the various sections of the one-day tournament.   Results from the tournament are available on MSA and on www.renaissanceknights.org, where you can also see photos from the events.
