Kamsky Advances; Akobian and Shabalov Head to Tiebreaks
November 25, 2009
Defending World Cup champion Gata Kamsky advances into round three of the 2009 World Cup. He drew today against Weiqi Zhou to secure the match victory.

Gata's opponent in round three is a definite surprise: He'll be facing Wesley So of the Phillipines, who just pulled off the upset of the tournament so far, eliminating Vassily Ivanchuk.

GM Varuzhan Akobian defended against Ruslan Ponomariov to score a draw and he will head back to the tiebreak room. We wish him luck in finishing Ponomariov off, even if it takes him till 1 AM again!

Shabalov had the wildest draw of the day against GM David Navara.

Shabalov and Akobian both head back to the tiebreaks tomorrow at 5 AM EST. Happy Thanksgiving tiebreaks to them!

Sadly, Alexander Onischuk is out as he was unable to create enough with White today, so he is eliminated.
