Lenderman Fifth in World Junior!

GM-elect Alex Lenderman tied for third at the World Junior Championship in Puerto Madryn, Argentina with 9/13! Alex placed fifth on tiebreak.  His result was marked by a late tournament surge of 4/5 including round 12 and 13 wins over GMs Falko Bindrich and Eduardo Iturrizaga. The streak was only interrupted by a round 11 loss to GM Maxime Lagrave-Vachier of France. Maxime ended up winning the tournament over GM Sergei Zhigalko on tiebreak. Here are two of Lenderman's wins from rounds 9 and 10.

The other American in the tournament, US Junior Champion and GM-elect Ray Robson, finished in 18th, but he had a solid 2552 performance rating. He also won some nice games like the following one against GM Yu Yangyi of China.

There was a three-way tie for first in the girls section in order of tiebreak- Soumya Swaminathan of India, Deysi Tello Cori of Peru and Cemre Betul Yildiz of Turkey.
