Julius Huxley Loftsson (1941-2009)

Julius Loftsson, one of California's best players in the 1960s and 1970s, died Sept. 16 in Los Angeles at age 67. Loftsson was a native of Iceland who moved to the Bay Area as a teenager and settled in Los Angeles some years later.  He achieved a USCF rating title of Senior Master with having achieved a USCF OTB rating over 2400. Due to health issues Julius discontinued playing over-the-board chess in the early 1980s.
