In the "B" section, Italian-American Fabiano Caruana earned 8.5/13, clear first and a ticket to the "A" group in 2010. In his final round game against co-leader at the time, he won over GM Nigel Short in a wild game. Short allowed Caruana to escape the perpetual with Qb5+? Instead 57...Qd3+ keeps the checks going forever.
