World Youth Opens in Style

The opening ceremony of the World Youth in Vung Tau, Vietnam looks to have been a spectacular one, judging from the official website's title "Best Ever", and Dujiu Yang's photo gallery below. Dujiu, the father of American Boys Under 12 representative Darwin Yang, reports a 30-hour(!) journey from Dallas to touchdown in their Vung Tau hotel room. To follow the event, which stretches from October 20 to October 31, bookmark the tournament homepage and chessresults.com. Here is a link to our 28-player delegation with details on rating, section and score. The first round began at 3 PM local time on the 20th, which was actually the middle of Sunday night for us. The U.S. team scored 19.5/28 in the first round. The live games link does not seem to work well yet, but CLO will update you with games from the scene as soon as we track them down.
