Landslide Vote for Aggression, Plus Inside the Minds of the Stevenson Team
By Glenn Petersen, Editor, Chess Life for Kids
October 16, 2008
Almost 75% of Earth's voters chose the aggressive 6...Nf6-e4, pressuring astronaut Greg Chamitoff's pinned Knight.  All three of the alternatives polled less than 10%.

While Greg looks at what to do next, we are able to share with you comments from the Stevenson Elementary School team members, as they deliberated on the choices which ultimately led to the current position:

Greg Chamitoff vs. Earth (after 6...Ne4)

It's not always possible for the chess club to meet in person, so a blog has been set up where the kids can register their choices, with or without reasons.

Their choices are weighted (3 points for #1, 2 points for #2, 2 points for #3).  The results were tallied by the coaches and the results presented for your consideration.

We thought you'd like to see a sample of how our all-stars reached their conclusions.  What follows is the blog for black's sixth move:

Nathan Chou Says:

      I would move:

      1) Ne4 (because it puts more pressure on the knight of c3).
      2) Bd7 (to take my king off the pin).
      3) g6 (to be able to take my bishop out without interfering with the bishop on c8. Also, it allows me to castle).

Patrick Wang Says:

      I would play:

      6… Ne4 followed by 7. Bxc6 bxc6 8. O-O, which wins a pawn, if Qd3 c4 also wins a pawn.

Grace Sun Says:

      I would probably move…

      1. Ne4 to attack and put pressure on his c3 knight
      2. e6 since i could move c4 and than Bb4 to attack his c3 knight
      3. Bg4 for development and to pin his f3 night

      yah that's it…

Jiayi Hu Says:

      Ne4 does not work because
      6. Nc3 Ne4
      7. Bxc6+ bxc6
      8. 0-0 Nxc3
      9. Qd2 Ba6
      10. Re1
      Therefor, my choices are
      1.e6
      2.Bd7
      3.g6
      :) Jiayi

Kevin Ma Says:

      I vote for Ne4.

Eric Chen Says:

      RAR

      5…e6
      5…Ne4
      5…Bf4

Eric Chen Says:

      oops i mean
      6…e6
      6…Ne4
      6…Bf4

Kevin Ma Says:

      Hi!
I changed my mind. Now I want to do
      6…Bf5 0-0 e6 Re1 Be7
      6…e6 7.0-0 Be7 8.Re1 0-0
      6…Bd7 7…0-0 e6 8. Re1 Be7
      Don’t do Ne4. I said,”Don’t!!!!!!!!!!!” So just develop.

Kevin Ma Says:

      “‘boo!’ for Ne4!”
      “down with Ne4!”
      “don’t vote for Ne4?

Stephen Embry Says:

      1. Ne4
      2. Bf5
      3. Qb4

Amith Vanmane Says:

      My moves are:

      1.Ne4
      6. Nc3 Ne4
      7.0-0 Bg4
      8.Bd2 Bxf3
      If Qxf3 then Nxd2!
If gxf3, he has a rotten pawn shield.
      2. e6
      Develop your bishop and castle!

      3.Bg4
      Play Bxf3

      Good luck everyone~Amith

Daniel Hua Says:

      1. Bf5
