An up and coming brother sister team, Simone (Girls Under 10) and Stan Liao (Boys Under 8)

The Pan-American Championships (Villa Carlos Paz, June 30-July 6) kicked off a day late due to flight delays in Argentina. The U.S. brought over 20 players and 4 coaches: the head of the delegation, Aviv Friedman as well as Michael Khodarkovsky, IM Armen Ambartsoumian and WIM Beatriz Marinello. You can follow the tournament on the official website or on various blogs including two from young female participants. Claudia Munoz, who has dual Mexican-American citizenship is playing in the Girls Under 12 and her blog, www.womancandidatemaster.blogspot.com features regular updates in Spanish and English. Simone Liao also has a blog of her own , and she won her first game in the Girls Under 10, against a Colombian WFM rated over 2100!
