The US Chess Federation is seeking bids to hold the 2008 US Championship and 2008 US Women's Championship.  Bidding is open until at least Nov.1, 2007, and the USCF office reserves the right to extend this deadline.

In 2007, the US Championship was a 9-round Swiss system held May 15-23, and the US Women's Championship a 10-player round robin held July 16-20.  These formats and times are not required for 2008, and alternative formats and/or dates may be considered.

Prior to 2007, the Championship and Women's Championship were combined into one event with overall prizes and women's prizes.  A bid for this format may also be considered.

The bidder is expected to cover most or all of the prize fund for the event.  For the US Championship the prize fund this year was about $75,000, and for the US Women's Championship it was $25,000.  Between 2000 and 2006, the prize fund for the combined US Championship and US Women's Championship varied from $100,000 to over $250,000.

Interested potential bidders should contact me at the USCF office.
