US Chess League Teams Gear Up for New Season |

The seventh season* of the US Chess League begins on August 29th, Monday. The league is composed of the same 16 teams that competed last year, including defending USCL Champions, the New England Nor'easters. The Saint Louis Arch Bishops are also back, with GM Hikaru Nakamura as headliner. According to USCL commissioner Greg Shahade, "many teams have completely different looks this season." The Philadelphia Inventors have signed GM Sergey Erenburg, Los Angeles added GM Alejandro Ramirez while Carolina has bolstered their lineup with a number of IMs and 2400 players. GM Yury Shulman and GM Josh Friedel have signed up to play in the Chicago Blaze, which now boasts 4 GMs. Shahade said, "This should be a really exciting and competitive season."
