The US Chess Scoop on Atlantic City: Part I
December 21, 2010
At the Atlantic City International (December 17-19), World Championship candidate and US Champion Gata Kamsky tied with Dutch GM Loek Van Wely for top honors. Van Wely defeated Kamsky in round four, forcing the US Champion to win both his Sunday games (against GM Lenderman and Paragua) for a piece of first.

Kamsky talked to the Scoop about Van Wely's tricky rook manuevers and his overall impression of the tournament.

Van Wely and Kamsky picked up $1800 for the win. Loek had actually netted a larger score of $2600 a day earlier by chopping up a poker tournament six ways at the Borgata. He also talked about his win over Gata and compared chess to poker.

Musician and 2009 US Women's Championship participant Yun Fan talked about how chess and music balance her life and the Hou Yifan-Ruan Lufei 2010 Women's World Championship final. The score is currently 1.5-0.5 in favor of Hou Yifan. Yun is friends with both players, and knows Ruan Lufei particularly well, since they are close in age and both attend college in the United States.
