BERKELEY, CA, November 15:
With 21 non-US federation players already signed up to play in the 2011 Berkeley International (to be held at the Berkeley Chess School from January 2-8), along with nine Grandmasters (four of whom are 2600+), norm opportunities should be very plentiful at the tournament.  As the threshold of 20 foreign players has been reached, the usual requirement of needing 40% of ones' opponents to be from non-US Federations to earn a norm will not apply in this event. The foreign federation requirement has been a hindrance to many players who had great performances in a US event but failed to earn a norm due to those technicalities. The nullification of that requirement will make the International a very special tournament, and one that no serious norm seeker should risk missing.

In addition to the bevy of GMs mentioned earlier, there will also be many young players showcasing their talent at the event such as newly crowned World U18 Champion IM Steven Zierk as well as the Silver Medalist from the World U12, NM Kayden Troff, and several others.

There is still time to enter.  There will also be several interesting side events, such as a couple of simultaneous exhibitions as well as a blitz event (open to all) on the final day of the event.  Those who are interested in taking part in the event in any fashion should contact Arun Sharma and check the website http://dotq.org/chess for complete details of the tournament.  The current player list is:
