Ukraine & Russia Take Gold; US Teams Finish Strong

At the 2010 Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk, the US squads finished strong. The men defeated Cuba 2.5-1.5, with US Champion Gata Kamsky earning the crucial point on board two. 


Hikaru Nakamura defended tenaciously against Cuban board one Lenier Dominguez, drawing after over 130 moves! 


We tied for 5th-10th, taking 9th on tiebreak. Ukraine (gold), Russia (silver) and Israel (bronze) earned medals this year. 
Meanwhile, the women's team tied for 3rd and took 5th on tiebreak. In the final round, they defeated the strong Indian team 2.5-1.5 with Tatev Abrahamyan scoring the clutch victory. 


Russia (gold), China (silver) and Georgia (bronze) were the top three finishers. US players Anna Zatonskih (4th place on board two) and Kamile Baginskaite (5th place on board four) narrowly missed board medals. 

Congrats to the US teams for a strong finish and safe travels back to the USA!
