US Senior Open Begins Monday

Starting Monday, the US Senior Open returns to the 2008 site, the Boca Raton Marriott, Boca Raton, Florida from August 23-28.  See advance entries here--GM Alexander Ivanov is the top pre-registered player.
 
The 2010 U.S. Senior Open is a six-game event, one round per day, Monday-Saturday, Game/90 with 30 second increment, and is open to USCF members born before 23 August 1960.  The winner is seeded into the 2011 U.S. Championship and the top player born on or before January 1, 1950 also becomes the official USCF entrant at the World Senior Championship in Arco, Italy.  The first five games start at 7pm and the last round is at 11am.  There is still time to register for the event and for the Awards Banquet taking place on Saturday, 28 August.  You do not need to participate in the event to attend the banquet.

Former World Senior Champion GM Larry Kaufman will be contributing dispatches on the event to CLO.  Kaufman tied for first in the 2004 US Senior Open in Boca Raton, losing out on tiebreak to local favorite Fabio La Rota. Kaufman won the Senior Open in 2008, and went on to win the World Senior later that year. In 2009, GM Larry Christiansen won the US Senior Open in Stillwater, Oklahoma, while Kaufman took second.
