Holland #1 ranked US player GM Hikaru Nakamura is off to the NH Chess Tournament in Amsterdam (August 12-22). The event pits rising star GMs Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, Anish Giri and David Howell against experienced GMs Boris Gelfand, Peter Svidler, Peter Heine Nielsen, Loek Van Wely and Ljubomir Ljubojevic. Hungary GM Ray Robson is midway through a very strong tournament, the Gyorgy Marx Memorial (August 5-16, Paks, Hungary). Robson is the lowest rated player in the six-player double round robin, which includes GM Zoltan Almasi and legendary GM Jan Timman. After five rounds, he has two losses, one win and two draws. Poland WIM Alisa Melekhina is doing well in the World Girls Championship (Chotowa-Czarna, Poland, August 3-16). With 6/8, she is set to play in board two in round nine against Nafisa Muminova of Uzbekistan. You can watch the games live on the official site. In the World Junior Championship, IM Marc Arnold currently stands with 4.5/8. With five rounds to go, anything can still happen for Alisa and Marc. Greece GM Robert Hess is playing in the Negroponte 2010 event in Chalkida, Greece from August 9-17. After three rounds, he has a perfect 3-0 including this round three victory over IM Sopiko Khukhashvilli. 4741 Update: GM Josh Friedel is also playing in Negroponte, and stands with 2/3.
