Bryan Smith Wins Philly International as World Open Kicks Off
June 30, 2010
Local IM Bryan Smith won the Philadelphia International with 7/9, picking up the clear first prize of $2000. Coming soon to CLO are US Chess Scoop videos including interviews with Bryan and norm-earners Amanda Mateer (WIM norm) and Farai Mandizha (final IM norm.)

Meanwhile, the World Open 7-day schedule began, with international contenders such as GMs Paco Vallejo (Spain), Luke McShane (England), Evgeny Najer (Russia) and Loek Van Wely (Netherlands). It's a testament to his recent results that our own Alexander Onischuk is seed #2 among this formidable field. Follow standings on worldopen.com. Also look for blogging by Jonathan Hilton later in the week.
