Final Four Kicks Off in Brownsville

2010Prescuplead.jpgThe University of Texas at Brownsville will host the Final Four of College Chess from April 9 through 11. The four teams competing are defending champions UMBC, University of Texas at Dallas, Texas Tech and the home team UT-Brownsville.

The competitors are:

UMBC:
GM Leonid Kritz, GM Sergey Erenburg, GM Giorgi Margvelashvili, IM Sasha Kaplan. Alternate: WGM Sabina Francesca Foisor.
UTD: IM Marko Zivanic, IM Daniel Ludwig, IM Julio Sadorra, IM Puchen Wang. Alternate: IM Salvius Bercys.
Texas Tech: IM Davorin Kuljasevic, IM Gabor Papp, IM Gergely Antal, Chase Watters.
UTB: GM Timur Gareev, GM Mauricio Flores, GM Axel Bachmann, IM Max Cornejo. Alternates: WIM Nadya Ortiz, WIM Luciana Morales.

In an attempt to motivate the guys, our brand new coach GM Ronen Har-Zvi, a.k.a. Indiana-Jones on ICC, promised that if UTB wins first place he will enroll as a student next semester. LOL.

The tournament starts tomorrow and tonight there will be a fancy dinner with players and officials. IM Alfonso “Poncho” Almeida will provide live commentary for every game. Follow the games online via Monroi.
