Talma A. Scott (1944-2010)

 

Talma Aubrey Scott III, a former USCF member from Worthington, Ohio, died March 2, 2010, at the Cleveland Clinic due to complications following lung transplantation. 

He was 65. He was born April 25, 1944, the son of Talma Aubrey Scott Jr. and Mary Anne (Evans) Buta. He graduated from Jamesville-DeWitt High School in DeWitt, New York in 1962. He later earned a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University, where he majored in philosophy.

He was a longtime student of Eastern philosophies. He served in the U.S. Army, where he was trained as a helicopter pilot and an air traffic controller. After 20 years with the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Columbus, Ohio, he retired in 1999. 

Mr. Scott was an avid chess player and played in a number of tournaments in Columbus and in other Ohio cities and towns. His last rated tournament was in March 2003 in Columbus. He had also been a member of the Internet Chess Club (ICC). 

In addition, he was an avid golfer and a member of the Blackhawk Golf Club in Galena, Ohio. 

He is survived by his partner of 16 years, Chrys Ann Matterson; two sisters, Diana Miller Yee and Debra Buta Payne; a niece, an aunt, and many cousins.
