Almost every state has a state chess organization and a state publication. You can find your state chapter by going to www.chessjournalism.org and clicking on LINKS. One of the best state publications is floridaCHESS (quarterly). It is read everywhere. The current issue features an interview with Dr. Gregory Chamitoff, an astronaut who is in space in the International Space Station!

As a result of the interview (you can read it at http://floridachess.org/SpaceChess.pdf), an interactive chess game will be played between Dr. Chamitoff … and YOU! In fact, by the time most of you read this, the game will be underway! But by going to www.uschess.org, and following the instructions, you can participate in the game!

The Stevenson Elementary School in Bellevue, Washington, won this year’s K-3 team championship in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Four of the seven team members (Daniel Hua, Patrick Wang, Amith Vanmane, and Kevin L. Ma) will choose four candidate moves to consider. Then YOU can vote online for the move you think is the best move!

Dr. Chamitoff will make the first move with the white pieces, the K-3 champs will suggest four possible replies, and then YOU can vote and help decide what move to play with the black pieces.

If you can log on, you can be part of history in the making! Go for it!

TO THE MOON!
