Zachary S. Woolard (1990-2013)

Zachary "Zack" Shay Woolard, a former USCF member from Washington, North Carolina, died on April 10, 2013. He was 22. He was born in Beaufort County on June 28, 1990, the son of Shannon Wayne Woolard and Missy Brooks Johnson. He graduated from Washington High School in 2008. He began playing USCF-rated chess while a freshman in high school, competing in his first tournament in December 2004 in Raleigh. He later played in Greenville, N.C., and competed in the North Carolina Scholastic Chess Championship in Charlotte in March 2005. He participated in a total of six tournaments in the state.
