William D. Peterson (1943-2009)
 
William D. Peterson, a former USCF member from Las Vegas, Nevada, died December 11, 2009 in Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. He was 66. He was born the son of Christopher O. and Ellen A. Peterson in Chicago, Illinois on March 1, 1943 - eight days before Bobby Fischer was born in the same city. Mr. Peterson was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a radioman on the USS Wood County. He co-owned several businesses in Saginaw in the 1980s and retired last year as the general manager of the Peterson Motel in Las Vegas. He was an avid chess player. He was also an amateur radio operator and a sports fan. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by three brothers, a sister, nephews and nieces.
