Congrats to 22-year-old IM Mariya Muzychuk (Ukraine), the new Women's World Champion. She defeated IM Natalia Pogonina 3/4 in an exciting final.


On the path to victory, Mariya also defeated the tournament's top seed, GM Humpy Koneru.


Muzychuk was supported in Sochi by her older sister (25), GM Anna Muzychuk, ranked as the #5 female player in the World at 2552.

Muzychuk will face GM Hou Yifan (the highest rated woman in the World at 2686) in a match to determine the next Women's World Champion.
