FM Mike Klein is traveling around the world. Meanwhile, he earned two notches in the Best of CLO 08 contest.
The #4 article in Best of Chess Life Online 08 is Searching for Fischer's Legacy by FM Mike Klein. Judges praised the timeliness and writing style of Klein's tribute. Klein is the only writer with two articles in the top ten. His U.S. Teams Celebrate Bronze Medals was chosen as Best of CLO 08-#8 , which includes links to Klein's many articles in CLO and the magazine. Mike's latest entry in his round-the-world travel blog is From (A)msterdam to (Z)agreb. He is currently in South Africa, so look for more exciting travel stories on his blog (with the occasional chess cameo.) Also watch out for his February Chess Life Magazine cover story, "Bronze Times Two" which went to the printer yesterday.

With the anniversary of Fischer's death coming up in just four days, it's a timely occasion to re-read Klein's lauded piece.

The Judges Sound Off
Read more about the judges here.

"High on the list because it must have been so difficult to write so soon after Fischer's death; the author does an excellent job."- Peter Doggers

"Another article which is obviously very good and thoughtful and interesting. It's about a special and sad occasion yet also includes thoughtful ideas."- Alex Lenderman

"Written in good journalistic style: it moves despite its static subject. Thoughtful rather than original."- Mark Taylor

"Another Fischer Piece" is what I expected here, but the author actually goes past the surface. Too many folks these days get as far as the mental aberrations and decide there's nothing else to say, or decide it's too dangerous to try and say something nice about Fischer. A surprise- Arlen Walker

"A nice retrospective with the good, bad and ugly. I think people will remember what they want to remember from Fischer."- Mike Atkins
