In the penultimate round of the Olympiad in Tromso, Norway, both American teams won 2.5-1.5.

The match vs. Argentina looked headed for a draw. GM Hikaru Nakamura and GM Sam Shankland won and GM Varuzhan Akobian lost. GM Alexander Onischuk's position looked dire too but he was able to save the draw with a fighting defense and 46.a7?

The US is now in sixth place and they play Azerbaijan tommorow. Shankland still leads the individual score board with 8.5/9 and a and a TPR of 2889.

The women defeated Vietnam 2.5-1.5 and play Argentina in the final round on August 14th.
