Clarence E. Gourneau (1951-2012)

Clarence Ernest Gourneau of Spokane, Washington, formerly of the Sheyenne and Oberon area in North Dakota, died March 22, 2012 in Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. He was 60. He was born July 5, 1951 in Belcourt, North Dakota and attended school in Oberon before joining the U.S. Army in 1968. He spent 1.5 years in Germany before being honorably discharged at Fort Dix in New Jersey in 1971. Mr. Gourneau had worked as a cook, hotel manager and truck driver. In 1996, he competed in several USCF-rated tournaments at the Mechanics Institute Chess Club in San Francisco.
