The National Scholastic K-12 Championships will be held at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare and the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. This tournament has grown to be one of the USCF's most popular scholastic events. This year, the Hyatt Regency O'Hare is offering an incredible $96 room rate for up to 4 in a room. Call 847-696-1234 and be sure to ask for the CHESS rate.

Attention Coaches: Please appoint an adult to be the contact person with the hotel front desk staff and any communication with room services.

Additional Hotel Information Hyatt Regency O'Hare A skywalk connects the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center to the Hyatt Regency O'Hare. There is FREE transportation from the airport to the Hyatt Regency O'Hare - just follow the signs "Hotel Shuttle Bus Area" and catch a Hyatt van.

  • Tournament Rules
  • 2003 USCF National Scholastic Chess Tournament Regulations
  • 7 Round Swiss, time control Game/90.
  • 14 Sections: Play only those in your grade, or college section.
  • Trophies to (minimum) top 10 individuals and top 5 teams in each grade. Many other class prizes.
  • Team score = total of top 3 (min. 2) finishers from each school per grade. 1st place individual and team will be National Champion for their grade.
  • One 1/2 point bye any round except 7, if requested with entry.
  • December rating supplement will be used.
  • Entry fee: $35 if postmarked by 11/17/03, $55 if postmarked by 12/1/03,$75 if postmarked after 12/01/03 or enter on site.
  • All players must be current USCF members.
  • Chess Sets & Boards are supplied  -  bring a chess clock if you have one.
  • UPS will be on site to help you with shipping trophies.

  • On-site check-in 12/11 from 9am-9pm and 12/12 from 9am-12noon.
  • Opening Ceremony Friday 12:30pm
  • Rounds: Friday 1pm and 6pm, Saturday 10am, 2pm and 6pm, Sunday 9am and 1pm.
  • Awards Ceremony Sunday 4:30-6pm (approx.)

    Trophies
  • At least 10 trophies to top individuals in each grade.
  • At least 5 trophies to top teams in each grade.
  • Many Class Trophies.
  • Place trophies take precedence over class trophies.
  • The first place players and teams in each grade will be recognized as National Champions.

    Side Events - Special Events
  • On-site entry only.
  • K-12 Blitz   Thursday enter between 9am-1pm, $15, play begins 1pm.Blitz Rules
  • K-12 Bughouse   Thursday enter up to 5pm, $20 per team, $10 per player, play begins 6pm. Bughouse Rules
  • Autograph session with GM Susan Polgar, Friday 5pm
  • Autograph session with WGM Alexandra Kosteniuk, Saturday 5pm
  • Lecture with GM Susan Polgar, Saturday 6:30pm
  • Two great simul opportunities, $20 per player, both Friday at 9am with WGM Alexandra Kosteniuk and GM Susan Polgar. On-site entry only Thursday until 7pm, or Friday am until 9, if space available.
  • Coaches and Parents meeting Friday 11am
  • Scholastic meeting Saturday 3pm...coaches, parents and children welcome
  • "Parents Tournament". Saturday, Dec. 13. 4 round SS, 10am, 12 noon, 2 pm, 4 pm. time control G/45. Two sections: Section 1: "USCF Members", registration fee $25, 1-5th place, 80% return as gift certificates to the USCF Bookstore at the event. Section 2: "New Players", registration fee $20. Top 20% players receive a one year USCF membership. Onsite registration only, up to 9am. Help make this new, fun, casual tournament a success for Parents & Friends!
