TOURNAMENT RULES
2004 National High School Chess Championship
The 2004 National High School Chess Championship is
sanctioned by the United States Chess Federation and conducted by its rules.
Tournament Rules
- 7 Round Swiss System Team/Individual. New! five sections:
- K - 12 Championship
- K - 12 rated under 1500
- K - 12 rated under 1200
- K - 12 rated under 900
- K - 12 unrated
The unrated section is restricted to players with no official rating but the section will be rated and players will earn ratings.
- Team score in each section is total of top 4 finishers from same school.
- A team may have any number of players in each section.
- Minimum 2 players per team
- Time Control: game/120.
- The April rating list will be used.
- Players with no official rating may only play in the unrated or Championship sections.
- 1/2 or zero point byes are available for players who need to miss any round(s).
- 1/2 point byes must be requested in advance
- only one 1/2 point bye is allowed
- only zero point byes may be given in round 7
- Tournament Rules:Note: USCF Scholastic Championships
are open only to students who are citizens of the U.S.; foreign students enrolled full time
in school in the U.S., and U.S. citizens attending school abroad. Please review the Tournament
Rules and the Scholastic Regulations for details.

- Scholarship Opportunity:
Thank you UT Dallas!! The University of Texas at Dallas
will award the winner of the Championship section with a four-year, full-tuition and
fees scholarship!! This includes a housing stipend of $1,000 a year.
That winner must meet the appropriate entrance
requirements to receive the award; if he or she does not, it does not pass
to the next highest player. Further, in order to renew the scholarship, the
student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average, and participate in all of
the chess club and team activities.
