Earl Clifton Monroe (1918-1992)

On September 2, 1992, Evansville Chess Club lost one of its most beloved members. Earl Clifton Monroe, 73, had been a member of the club since the early 70's. Until he lost his eyesight, from complications of diabetes, he had participated in every local event organized by the club. He was an avid player and promoter of local chess and traveled out of state to many others.

The club inaugurated the Earl Monroe Memorial in October 1992.

Earl achieved an official USCF rating of 1346 for his over-the-play.

Obituary submitted on behalf of the Evansville CC by Terry Winchester.
