Gregory R. Hager (1949-2007)

USCF life member Greg Hager died Nov. 27 at his home in Somerville, MA, after a long illness. He was born Oct. 5, 1949 in Newton, NJ, and was raised in Rochester, NY. He had lived the past 10 years in Somerville.

He attended Rochester public schools, Fordham University, and the University of Maryland, where he received a master's degree. Before his illness, Mr. Hager was a Realtor for a firm in Cambridge, MA for 10 years. Previously, he was a chemist at a company in Boston.

He was a life member of the Massachusetts Chess Association (MACA) and a longtime member of the Boylston Chess Club in Somerville, where he served on its board of directors for some years. He had played in nearly 250 rated tournaments since January 1991 - the overwhelming majority of which were at the Boylston club.

He is survived by his mother, Angela M. (Dovi) Hager of Rochester, NY; an aunt, Anna Louise Huguenin of New York City; and his faithful dog Zeppo.
