A maneuver well-known from the g2-g3 lines against the Queen's Indian. If
Black plays ... Nxd2, then the White knight left on c3 will support the
advances e2-e4 and d4-d5. If Black plays ... Nxc3, then the d2 bishop
recaptures and sits nicely on c3. In this position, however, Shaked has played
a2-a3 rather than g2-g3, and this amounts to a waste of time relative to the
other variation. Therefore, deFirmian should be able to get a decent position
using such moves as ... Bf8-e7, ... f7-f5, and ... d7-d6, effectively a tempo
up on the related position.
