Position after 15... Ne8

Previous Next

deFirmian is overptrotecting the d6 point. Nothing was to be gained by 16 ... Nxe4 17 Nc3 f5 18 Nxe4 fxe4 19 Re1. 15 ... a6 was still premature and would have met 16 Nxd6 Bxd6 17 Rxd6 Rxd6 18 Bxd6 and if 18 ... Qxd6 19 e5, or 18 ... Nxe4 19 Be5, and White is much better. deFirmian looks forward now to ejecting the White knight from b5, ending the threats to the d6 pawn, but meanwhile, Black has had to spend some time.
