Nick deFirmian took an early lead in Group A of the Prelims with 3 1/2 out
of four and then coasted to win his group and enter the Semi-Finals. deFirmian
has worked out quite intensely his lines against the English because his
regular defenses to 1 d4 (the Nimzo- and the Benoni) do not apply against the
English. deFirmian plays the symmetrical English with 1 ... c5.
