Position after 13... f5

Previous Next

A good move, obtaining much-needed space on the kingside. 13 ... Bb7 was also possible, but this may have made it harder to get in ... f7-f5 later (as nobody would be protecting e6). Positionally speaking, 14 exf6 e.p. does not seem very promising, as White's wedge on e5 would be dissolved, and Black's e6 square seems easy for him to protect. (Have a question? Ask GM Rohde! Not all questions can be answered, but the Grandmaster will pick selected topics to cover live from e-mail received.)
