Position after 11... Ne8

deFirmian definitely does not want to exchange as then White's f4 pawn, blocking the f-file and the c1-h6 diagonal, graduates to e5 and White would have too many open lines. In recognition of the pressure which is coming to bear on d6, deFirmian lends that point extra support. My impression is that Kudrin is doing pretty well in this position; it is hard to get an enduring advantage against openings expert deFirmian. (Have a question? Ask GM Rohde!
