Position after 6... e6

Previous Next

The well-known moves in this position are 6 ... c6, 6 ... Bg4 and 6 ... Nc6. The text is notably passive, but one of the ideas is that White is forever prevented from following e4-e5, kicking the knight, with a common fracturing sacrifice e5-e6. Thus, Black may be planning now on following up with the effective double fianchetto 7 ... b6 and 8 ... Bb7, as the bishop is no longer needed on c8. On the other hand, 6 ... e6 is not very active, and this explains its lack of popularity. (Have a question? Ask GM Rohde!
