Gurevich decides to take action. Before this move, he might have
offered a draw, and Christiansen would probably have taken it, and
Gurevich would end up tied for second or third place. With the text,
Gurevich tries to expand in the center, but at the cost of creating some
weaknesses. At least now the rook on a2 will be able to swing over
meaningfully.
