Position after 10. Be2

Previous Next

After normal developing moves black must decide where to post his K-Bishop. Michael Adams has played black in this position against many super GMs. Michael frequents the black side of the Queen's Indian. Also common is 10.Bf4. Now the most common move for black is Qb8, preparing a later Qb7 and prevenmting Bf4. Goldin replied 11.f4 to 10..Qb8 and Tunik played the natural Qb7, 12.Bf3 Bc5 and Blocker chose the ultra-aggressive 11...h5?!, 12.b4 a5 13.Rb1 only to lose quickly. Browne is taking his time now, maybe he is deciding whcih line is best. Goldin has experience with the white side of this positon, winning 2 games this year, both played 10...Qb8. IM Blocker went down in only 21 moves whereas Tunik lasted 75. (Have a question? Ask GM Rohde! Not all questions can be answered, but the Grandmaster will pick selected topics to cover live from e-mail received.)
