Position after 16. Rdg1

Previous Next

A disaster is about to happen on the g6 square .16 ... Kf8 is not a defense: 17 hxg6 hxg6 18 Rxh8+ Bxh8 19 Bxg6 fxg6 20 Qxg6 wins. 16 ... Nd5 seems to lose routinely to 17 hxg6; perhaps 16 ... Qd7 and if 17 hxg6 hxg6 18 Rxh8 (18 Bxg6 Rxh1) Rxh8 is unclear. The problem is 16 ... Qd7 17 f4 with massive pressure. (Have a question? Ask GM Rohde!
