On 14 ... Nxd5, White might have tried the immediate 15 c4. After the
text, White has one more move of breathing room before Black plays ... Bd7-f5,
as currently that would lose the d-pawn to Bd3xf5. Also, the d7 bishop could
travel to g4, in which case White would have to pose the question instantly
(with h2-h3) as to what the bishop's intentions are.
