Position after 48. Bd1

Draw agreed. Nick deFirmian is the new United States Champion. deFirmian did not lose a game during the entire event - he led his Prelims Group by a large margin - and his play sparkled with activity, soundness and defensive tenacity in his Semi-Finals Match against Tal Shaked, and in the Finals against Benjamin. Joel Benjamin, the defending U.S. Champion, emerged from a rough-and-tumble 4-player tiebreak in his Prelims Group, and then convincingly defeated Dmitry Gurevich in the Semi-Finals, before coming up against a brick wall in deFirmian in the Finals.
