Position after 18... Nxd4

Previous Next

It seems presumptuous to dodge the exchange with 18 ... Na5, as usually a White knight on d4 has to be marked by somebody. Exchanging knights leads to a position where Black can use the fork ... e7-e5 (against a White piece on d4 and the pawn on f4) to insure a favorable exchange of pawns. (Have a question? Ask GM Rohde! Not all questions can be answered, but the Grandmaster will pick selected topics to cover live from e-mail received.)
